The Ground Rules

About

Who we are and how we work

The Ground Rules is a grassroots, volunteer group of residents of New Albany and the surrounding area. We started it because decisions about data centers and the power plants that run them are moving faster than most neighbors can follow.

What we promise

  • A source for every fact.

Each number and claim on this site links to the public filing, government page, or news report it came from. If we can't source it, we don't publish it.

  • Primary sources first.

We prefer Ohio Power Siting Board dockets, Ohio EPA permits, PUCO cases, and City of New Albany documents over news coverage, and news coverage over everything else.

  • Estimates are labelled.

Where a figure is our own estimate or a model, such as the Downwind map, we say so and explain how we got it.

  • Facts and opinion are kept apart.

Each page states what the record shows. Our suggestions for what you can do are set apart in shaded boxes marked "What you can do". Our group's own position is on the Join us page, labelled as opinion.

Corrections

If something here is wrong or out of date, email hello@thegroundrules.org with a link to the source. We'll check it, fix the page, and record the change below. That applies to everyone, including the city and the companies named on this site.

Independence

We are not affiliated with the City of New Albany, any school district, any utility, or any company named on this site. We take no money from any of them. The site runs on free hosting and volunteer time.
